I’m Sylvie Makela, co-founder and director of Tribus Urbaines. We specialise in curly, kinky, and textured hair. While we welcome all hair types, our true expertise lies in highly textured hair. We use natural products to enhance curls rather than straighten or relax them. At Tribus Urbaines, we don’t just style hair — we create an inspiring and uplifting environment, enriched with books and meaningful objects, all curated to spark self-confidence, celebrate beauty, and reconnecting with yourself.
I like the idea of how Salonkee and Tribus Urbaines have grown together over the years - their success is our success, and our success is their success.
Definitely. Reviews help clients evaluate salons when hesitating between two choices. But reviews can also be a place where customers express frustration — even about small things — and we must deal with that. Interestingly, our ratings are much higher on Salonkee than on Google, where frustrated customers tend to go when they need to “put their feelings somewhere.”
1. Planning tool: The feature we use the most. We can break down a service (shampoo, cut, styling) and assign each part to a different stylist - essential for our organisation. 2. Everything in one system: Cash register, planning, product stock, staff schedules — all centralised.
We’re happy these new features now exist and plan to explore and use them in 2027. We're specifically interested in using the: 1. Automatic follow-up emails 2. Forms for the launch of our new head spa, allowing us to gather information in advance and offer the right treatment.
Yes - and it’s essential. No-shows are extremely frustrating, especially for long technical services.
Absolutely. We’ve always used email or SMS reminders. Email is free, so I encourage stylists to use that. Without reminders, we’d likely have many more no-shows.
Yes, the training was good. What we still appreciate today is how available the team is whenever we have questions or when new features appear.
It depends on their salon size. For a solo stylist, it may feel like a bigger investment. But for salons with multiple stylists, stock management, and more complex schedules, it’s absolutely worth paying for a service that saves time and increases efficiency.
